The University Police Deparment is responsible for all doors and locks on all UTHSCSA property regardless of its location. The Lock Shop which is comprised of a Lock Shop Leader and two Locksmiths reports to the Access Control Coordinator (Teresa Cooke | 210.567.0677) and is responsible for repairing and installing door hardware; repairing and installing door cores, adjusting doors and making keys.
FEE SCHEDULE
- Work Orders are charged at:
- $25 per hour per Locksmith;
- the cost of parts; and
- a Minimum of 1 hour
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Question: If I need something done by a Locksmith can I call them directly?
- Answer: No - All requests for work whether it will be for a fee or free must be scheduled through the Access Control Office (Teresa Cooke).
- Question: What do we get charged for and what is done for free?
- Answer: Work Orders are charges and Job Orders are done for free. Review the Lock Shop Work Classification List to see what falls into each category.
- Question: Who sets the priority of work to be done?
- Answer: The Lock Shop Leader and the Access Control Coordinator meet daily to go over what Work Orders and Job Orders that have come in and prioritize them. As a guideline we prioritize:
- Rush Emergencies (VIP requests, re-cores for termination, security issues etc)
- Job Orders (maintenance type repairs that are for safety or security)
- Normal Core Changes
- Cabinet, Desk etc Keys (which are not State Keys)
- Question: Can we hire a non-UTHSCSA Locksmith to do work? Can we have a non-UTHSCSA Locksmith cut non-State Keys for things like cabinets and desks?
- Answer: No - UTHSCSA doors can only be worked on by UTHSCSA Locksmiths unless UT Police contracts out. Yes - Non-State keys may be cut by anybody. UT Police provides the service if needed but at the lowest priority.
- Question: What do I do if I have a problem with a lock?
- Answer: Send an email to lockshop@uthscsa.edu indicating the following: Building, Room #, Point of Contact (POC), POC Phone # and Description of problem.
