Are UT Police officers licensed police officers?
Yes. All UT Police Department officers are commissioned peace officers licensed by the state of Texas. They have full arrest powers and authority.
Can UT Health San Antonio officers make arrests off campus?
Yes. UT Police officers can arrest offenders of the law both on and off campus.
Can a UT Police officer issue a traffic citation?
Yes. UT Police officers are authorized to issue traffic and parking citations. Warnings do not involve a fine or penalty and are issued with the intent of obtaining voluntary compliance to parking rules. Campus traffic citations require payment to the university. These citations do not appear on your driving record. City of San Antonio Municipal citations and Justice of the Peace traffic citations require that you appear before a municipal and/or Justice of the Peace court for determination of fines.
What happens if I do not pay my campus citation?
If you are a student your transcripts will be held, you cannot register for classes, and your UTHSCSA ID card may be deactivated, until the fines are paid. If you are a faculty or staff member, your UTHSCSA ID card may be deactivated, you may lose your parking permit, even if it is a reserved parking space, and you will not be able to clear the university should you be leaving.
What if I don’t pay my City of San Antonio municipal citation and/or Justice of the Peace citation?
If you do not appear in court or pay your fine, a warrant for your arrest may be issued by the court.
What should I do if my car has a flat tire or I lock my keys in my car?
If you are in the parking lot, look for the nearest emergency phone. They are located in various places throughout the campus and are easily identified by a blue light. You can also call 210-567-2800, option 3 to request assistance. A public safety officer will be sent out to assist you.
What should I do if I am in a traffic accident on campus?
Contact UT Police at 210-567-2800 as soon as possible and speak with the dispatcher. You will be asked where the accident occurred, if there are any injuries and the number of vehicles involved. A UT Police officer will be dispatched to assist and take an accident report.
